What is Alt Music?
Alternative music is created by artists that don’t fit into the established musical genres. It is frequently distributed by independent record labels and is generally thought of as being more diverse, innovative, or difficult than the majority of popular music (such as traditional rock, pop, or country).
It differs from mainstream rock and roll because big record labels did not think it could be commercially successful. Despite the fact that alternative music has grown in popularity over time, mainstream radio stations rarely play it. Early in the 1980s, the word “alternative” was developed to define the punk-rock fusion subgenres.
